The CPPC vehemently repudiates Israel’s aggression against Lebanon

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) vehemently repudiates Israel’s bombings against Lebanon, which in just a few hours killed hundreds of people, injured thousands and forced many more to abandon their homes. The bombings, intensified from Monday, September 23, follow the unspeakable attack involving electronic devices (such as pagers or walkie-talkies), which left a trail of death and mutilation in the country.

This, which is already one of the most serious Israeli aggressions against Lebanon in recent decades, proves that it is Israel – and its supporter, including the USA – that is the main factor in destabilization in the Middle East: the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip , the worsening of repression in the West Bank, the provocations against Iran, the constant attacks against Syria and Lebanon (which are now experiencing this worsening) further destabilize that region and represent a high and worrying potential for escalating war, with regional dimensions.

The CPPC demands from the Portuguese Government a firm condemnation of the Israeli attacks and determined action, in all international institutions in which it participates, in favor of peace and the rights of the people of the Middle East, starting with the Palestinian people: demanding a ceasefire immediate and permanent in the Gaza Strip and an immediate end to attacks and incursions in the West Bank; the lifting of the blockade of the Gaza Strip and the reconstruction of the territory; the end of the occupation and its instruments (settlements, checkpoints, the separation wall, prisons), the immediate recognition of the State of Palestine on the borders prior to June 1967, with its capital in East Jerusalem, and the right to the return of refugees.

The CPPC calls once again for participation in the actions included in the National Solidarity Day “Free Palestine! Peace in the Middle East”, which takes place in various locations across the country, between the 2nd and 12th of October, the date on which a demonstration will take place in Lisbon , starting at 3pm, at Martim Moniz.
It will be an opportunity, yet another, for the Portuguese people to make their voice heard in favor of peace, disarmament, sovereignty and people’s rights. As, in fact, is enshrined in the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic.
