On July 13th, President Trump notified congress that the U.S. is at war with Iran after a ceasefire was agreed on between the U.S. and Iran, giving him another 60 days to attack Iran without congressional approval.
In order to protect American children from another Vietnam, the War Powers Resolution (WPR), first adopted in 1973 over the veto of President Richard Nixon, reaffirmed the constitutional role of Congress in committing the United States into armed conflict abroad, and mandated pulling out any unauthorized conflicts within 60 days.
Today, Congress seems to have forgotten its constitution duty. Now, Congress has prioritized its duty to the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and weapons manufacturers instead of the American people. All this comes as the rising cost of living is taking a toll on American families.
Remember, Trump agreed with Iran to a ceasefire back in April, and agreed to pay 300 billion dollars for destroying their country with our tax dollars. This is happening while our own infrastructure is falling apart. Planes are falling out of the sky and trains are coming off the tracks. The American Society of Engineers mentions that our infrastructure is facing a 3.6 trillion dollar deficit for the next 10 years. [1]
Already, the estimated cost for the war with Iran since February is up to a 100 billion not taking into account additional price consumers are paying in gas, groceries, and goods. Additionally, 14 American soldiers lost their lives in this unnecessary war.
While war-hawks lie that Iran has lost its ability to create nuclear weapon capabilities, because Iran never had them, the U.S. and Israel have always had nuclear weapons, meanwhile Trump blathered that “a whole civilization will die tonight never to be brought back again.” Trump’s actions are not preventing the world from a nuclear holocaust; it is making it more likely to happen.
